Let the Journey Begin!

Well hello again to everyone, I thought I would get one more chat in before this month ends. Also to let you all know that our wonderful journey of the fabulous Melbourne Sculptures & Statues starts right now.

We began the journey on an extremely hot Australia Day 2006 on our way to see the RACV Vintage Car Parade in the Kings Domain Gardens. As you might remember this is just up the road from home and we had to pass one of my favorite pieces along the way. For those of you who have been here you know we look at this interesting piece each day, so where better to start our library than, yes that's right, The Yellow Peril. What is that you ask?

'The yellow angular sculpture outside the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art at Southbank caused a huge public outcry when it was first unveiled in the City Square in 1980. Its real name is Vault but the media dubbed it “The Yellow Peril– the name that most Melburnians know it by. It was banished to a riverside park for many years before moving to its current home'.

After we viewed the Vintage Cars (in the heat) we moved on to the cool of the Crown cinemas and saw the new movie, Walk the Line. We followed this with some dinner at the Automatic Cafe, then spent some time on the banks of the yarra just watching the world go by both on & off the river. We then went to the lookout in the Rialto Tower and watched the fireworks at Federation Square. They were wonderful and it was excellent seeing them from a different perspective, 55 floors above the ground.

So another great day in Melbourne Town. We did miss you all in Perth but know you will have enjoyed Australia Day as we did. Wethat'sats all for now folks - Janurary is almost over and there are still so many wonderful sculptures to find.

Until next time ......
