Time to say goodbye....
Monday 28/05/2012. A day of traveling...
This morning we had to say goodbye to Marg, Peter and Matilda. It was another glorious morning and very hard to get dressed for travel instead of relaxing in the sun. Still all good things must come to an end and this has been one fabulous adventure from start to finish.
When we joined Marg and Peter in Nancy we had no idea of the amazing adventure we were beginning. We have been on two canals, two rivers, many locks of all sizes, three countries and visited so many beautiful little towns we will never forget the journey we have been on. We have enjoyed sharing your lifestyle for a short while and I never knew rope throwing was so tricky but I almost got there. I'm sure Bill will never look at a barge pole quite the same again either. We have had the best fun and have loved every moment we spent with you both. Thank you so much for having us and spoiling us rotten as well.
Our day started with a walk across the bridge from Germany to Remich to catch the bus into the station. From there we had to hop on another bus to Betembourg (rail work being done) and we caught the train to Paris from here. 2 hours later we arrived at Gare de Est and walked around to Gare de Nord where we boarded the Eurostar for the trip back to London.
Arriving in London and needing a taxi to the hotel in peak hour is not a wise move but at least we got a chance to have a good look at our surroundings as we crawled slowly through the maze of streets. If the truth be known it was probably only a short tube ride but neither of us could face another staircase with those fully packed cases. We are staying at the Royal Trafalgar Thistle and are just around the corner from Chinatown, Leicester Square and of course Trafalgar Square.
Just after we arrived we met Ali and Steve for dinner and a drink before they head off tomorrow to join Marg and Peter for a week on Matilda. We found a great little place in Chinatown had a yummy dinner and said goodbye to them about 10.00. We had a walk around Leicester Square and the nearby streets all still alive with people coming and going and just as we were on our way home we passed a huge colorful shop.
An M and M shop, four levels of all things M and M's and full of people looking and shopping. Of course we had to look and buy a little bit - but not one edible M and M did we purchase - are we mad? Home to bed and the lights going off now.
See you tomorrow...
