Meanwhile back in Melbourne.....

After our first trip of the year it was time to see what Melbourne had to offer during January.    Our first night out was to the Arts Centre to see the magnificent production of War Horse.  I had seen the movie last year and was interested to see how the stage show was presented.  I will not spoil it for you by going into detail but will only say it was an amazing production and one that I can highly recommend when it comes to a theatre near you.
On Friday night Bill met me in the city after work and we had dinner at The Oriental Tea house in Little Collins St.  This is a yummy Chinese Dumpling Restaurant in a fabulous old blue stone building.  The food was good and we look forward to another visit to try some more of the tempting dishes on the menu.

Saturday saw us at another theatre, this time with Cheryl and Shane, who had come to stay for the weekend from St Leonard's.  We spent the afternoon catching up with a drink or two before putting on the glad rags for our night out.  We had a lovely dinner at Society in Bourke St before walking around the corner to The Princess Theatre where we saw Jersey Boys.  Yes, we had seen it before but thoroughly enjoyed it a second time.  We had a slow start to Sunday morning and after a late breakfast we said good bye to our guests and spent the afternoon catching up with some household chores.
Bill had spent a week away for work the next week and while I was waiting for him to come home on  the following Saturday I had a wander around the city for a while.  Coming home past Federation Square I found that the round house 'Stickworks' is still there attracting visitors.  Called 'Ballroom' it is constructed from materials cleared from key water catchment areas.  It took 3 weeks to build and is inspired by the architecture of Flinders Street Station.  Now a dark brown colour as the Willow branches have dried out it is an interesting structure.

Just around the corner in Federation Square I found another new sculpture called 'Paparazzi Dogs'.  These unique dog/human hybrids celebrate the relationship between man and dog.  You can see them until early April.
A little further along the road The Famous Speigletent has arrived at its home in the Arts Centre forecourt ready to entertain Melbourne once again with its unique brand of live music, comedy and cabaret.  Hopefully we can find something we can get tickets for this season.

We had dinner 'Downstairs' on Saturday night and had a quiet Sunday at home before getting ready for another week at work.  Next week we hit the road again so watch this space for our next adventure.

Until next time........
