End of an era

Well what a month it has been in Melbourne, not only have we had friends and family leaving, we now have footy coaches leaving in droves. Each day's newspaper brings tales of another club and another coach moving on. So as you can imagine it was with horror that we heard the news that 'Sheeds' too was moving on from Essendon. Now for all you non Essendon loving folks (not that there are too many of you, of course), Kevin Sheedy has been the coach for 27 years. There are a huge number of people around who know no other. So it really is the end of an era. What will happen to the mighty Bombers now is anyone's guess but things can't stay the same for ever. At least we get to finish the season out unlike most of the other clubs.

In fact it was on a wave of emotion that the Sunday after the announcement we watched Essendon beat the Crows at Telstra Dome. Grant & Jill had come from Adelaide to watch their team beat us. Well, that was the plan anyway. They said it was the 3rd week in a row they had been beaten on the emotion of a sacked coach. Still we had a fabulous weekend with them and we able to drown their sorrows after the game during dinner at Chloes.

The next week we had a surprise visit from Marg O & Peter Miller, a flying visit for both, but lovely to be able to catch up and say hello to you both. Marg came back on Sunday afternoon and we all drowned our sorrows that night after watching Essendon & then the Eagles get beaten in their respective games. That was not meant to happen. Still a good bottle of Red makes anything bearable and a few help even more.

It's holiday time again for the Harris's and seeing as the Dr won't let me ski this year, can't understand that really, we have decided to give the cold weather the flick and are off to the warm weather of Central Australia and Darwin. We have been off to the shops this morning stocking up on camera batteries & movie film and so now all there is left to do is charge the batteries and pack the bags in readiness our next adventure to begin.
